Overcomer Ministries, Inc. will be regularly creating and contributing new Disability Ministry training for churches and ministries. The current focus is on the growing need for sensory regulation and sensory inclusion. Become A Sensory-Friendly Church is a series of 6 short videos filled with easy, inexpensive tips to be sensory inclusive. Another extremely helpful video series is Simple Sensory Tools: how to choose and use the right sensory tools.
Overcomer Ministries, Inc. is unique in that they provide free Christ-Centered Occupational Therapy Consulting to churches for assistance with Disability Ministry. Consultation and training are also available for help with Universal Design in the church environment and Universal Design for Learning. Universal Design is a set of principles used to intentionally design the environment and learning to maximize access to everyone. Churches and ministries have the opportunity to set the standard for maximum accessibility and inclusion for those affected by disabilities.
Overcomer Ministries, Inc. believes knowledge of God and His word deserve the most effective teaching methods, that’s why they also provide training in evidence-based teaching practices, such as Brain-Based Learning, Universal Design for Learning, and Multisensory Learning. Overcomer Ministries, Inc. provides training to churches so they can develop or adapt curriculum to meet a wide variety of learning needs.
Overcomer Ministries, Inc. also designs custom sensory spaces. There are many factors to consider when designing a sensory space, such as: what is the purpose, who will be using it, and what are their needs? Most churches don’t need an elaborate sensory room unless they are planning to do extensive respite care. Most churches just need simple, inexpensive solutions for their sensory areas. Sometimes all that’s needed is a calming corner in a room and some portable sensory tools that can be used anywhere. Inclusion is the goal for Overcomer Ministries, Inc.
