Sensory Tip Sheet
How, When and Why to use sensory tools. Includes many easy to implement sensory strategies for the classroom. Utilize inexpensive readily availble sensory tools and OT expertise to maximize learning.
Sensory regulation strategies work best if applied at the very first signs of anxiety or distress; it is more difficult to reverse neurological responses once stress response hormones are released in the brain. When practiced regularly, children can be taught to recognize their own levels of control, or lack of control, and they can learn to apply these strategies independently to self-regulate. Most children require help learning how to recognize their need for sensory regulation and what strategies to use to get control of themselves.
